Sahak Sahakyan Museum
On May 31, 2024 due to the initiation and efforts of the artist's family, the Museum of Sahak Sahakyan was opened in Yerevan. The world famous sculptor lived and created in that building for years. More than 1000 exhibits are displayed in the museum.
About 200 bas-reliefs with motifs from the epic David of Sassoon are presented in the permanent exhibition. This is a unique approach to the Armenian epic, as Sahak Sahakyan is the only artist whose bas-reliefs dedicated to David of Sassoon are admirably numerous.
Tales and epics were a source of inspiration for the sculptor. Loving and studying Armenian, Muslim, and European fairy tales, the popular sculptor created sculptures of the heroes of fairy tales, which seem to have been given a breath by the master's vivid imagination and mastery of assimilating the imaginary to reality. The fairy-tale-loving sculptor preferred the creation of the heroes of Paronyan's and Tumanyan's fairy tales, considering them more armenian and close to his soul.
Sahak Sahakyan also became known due to the decoration of the movie "Anoush". In France the talented sculptor of Armenian origin won a special award for his skill in making barrels part of his art.
